Put a drawstring on anything and it instantly becomes casual. Such is the case with this stitched up Dior bag. Soft brown leather is patterned with tonal stitching and pulled together with a slim drawstring strap threaded through antiqued brass rings. The large “D” charm hanging from one of three key fobs leaves no doubt whose bag you are carrying. The flap closes with a snap and the interior is finished with Dior logo lining, zip, cell and open pockets. The bag measures 8″H x 19″W x 6″D and sells for $1790.

Marc Jacobs Mercer Peet Leather Purse

I am so impressed with Marc Jacobs’s latest offerings that I can’t help be a teeny bit worried about my bank account. Self-control? What’s that? It’s nonexistent when faced by MJ’s lovely Mercer Peet Leather Tote. This slouchy, supple purse is spacious and timeless - it’s going to be as stunning and relevant two years from now as it is today. That’s because Marc Jacobs doesn’t attach himself to anything too over-the-top or trendy, instead sticking with tried-and-true details that make subtle statements. From the always-luscious leather to the demure hardware to the dainty knotted handles, there’s nothing here that won’t stand the test of time. the purse is gorgeous in maple and black and available to pre-order for $1150 at Saks.

Cameron Diaz’s Marc Jacobs Blake Purse

After a brief dalliance with Pierre Hardy, it looks as though Cameron Diaz has returned to her true love: Marc Jacobs (what, you were thinking JT?). And judging by this ultra-chic and sophisticated Marc Jacobs Venetia Bag, who can blame her? The gray leather purse looks fabulous with her slip dress (if a bit monochromatic), and it’s upscale without looking flashy or pretentious. I love the gold hardware on the two front pockets and the arrow-shaped buckles. Bonus: This handbag can go almost anywhere. Photo from PopSugar.com.

Gucci Snow Glam Medium Purse

I like the curved shape of this Gucci Snow Glam Medium Purse, and I like the patent leather. What I don’t like, however, is the red, black, and white color combination, which makes me think of a) my highschool colors, and b) a race car. If they’d simply stuck on one - or perhaps even two - colors I’d be first in line to pick up a hip hobo like this. As it is, it looks a little too sporty for its high-fashion caliber. $1,895 at Bergdorfgoodman.com

Chloe Eddie Leather Shoulder Bag

Now here’s a bag that will work for 20-something downtown girls and 50-something ladies who lunch equally. Chloe’s Eddie Leather Shoulder Bag has a classic appeal elevated by modern, fashion-forward details. The taupe leather is shiny and distressed, rather than perfectly polished and smooth, which adds character. The purse also features gold hardware, plus a chunky brass chain link shoulder strap. You could wear this with a Chanel suit, or skinny jeans and a white tank…either way you’ll look sophisticated and stylish. $1,525 at Net-a-porter.com

Marc Jacobs Stones Joseph Messenger Bag

Messenger bags seldom interest me…unless of course they’re designed by Marc Jacobs and feature totally stylish art deco stones on the front. This Marc Jacobs Stones Joseph Messenger combines impeccable craftsmanship (just take a look at that beautiful soft grained leather, in black or bisque), a luxury aesthetic, practicality, and that elusive fashiony eccentricity. While the bag is stunning on its own, the stones give it style and personality. Heck, even if you can’t afford this baby perhaps you’ll be inspired to tack on some brooches to the purses you already own. $2,175 at Barneys.com
