Chloe Audra Zipped Purse

Less polished, more slick, but still chic no matter what - that’s the beauty of this Chloe Audra Zipped Purse. It takes a minute to digest the odd splashes of color on this one, but somehow it seems to work even if tan leather studs, red-trimmed zippers, brass hardware and black patent leather seem an unlikely team. Audra is soft and relaxed, less structured than the basic work tote but still just as pulled together and appropriate for a day at the office or a sick day at the mall. The exterior pockets are a great addition: They keep the necessities within easy reach. Available for $1800 at Diabro.

To appreciate the impact of this bag, consider its size: a roomy 15″ x 15″ with a 16½” across-the-body strap. It’s big and beautifully shaped in a brown and black zebra print, cinched at the top with a slim leather belt. The gold-tone hardware on the buckle and rings has a pretty pebbly texture and inside it’s fully lined. A stunning fall bag for $2590.

Luxury Luggage: Style Meets Airlines

What kind of luggage you carried used to be a simple choice of personal style and durability, but in the post 9/11 world things are different. Regulations for air travel are not only much stricter than they used to be, but they’re also changing all the time. Having a set of luggage that you both love and can use/is in compliance for more than one trip is a valuable thing these days!

But thankfully the luggage market is stepping up the the challenge, especially the brands with upscale globe-trotting clientele bases. They’re coming out with bags that are lighter than ever, tougher than ever, and of course, more stylish than ever. Many companies are even providing carry-on essentials like ziplock plastic bags and appropriately sized plastic bottles. And that’s helpful, seriously.

Tufts of soft brown flocking give this bag a beautiful and touchable texture. At 6″ x 9″, it’s fairly small and the long 23″ drop strap makes it ideal for wearing across the body. Made from black canvas with patent leather trim and suede panels on each side, the Baby Billie Bag is lined in suede and features an interior patch pocket. It looks warm and cozy - perfect for the cooler days ahead. $385.

Brahmin Walnut Orinico Sophie, Handbag of the Day

I was out shopping yesterday and ran across this bag. Although Bill and Joan Martin have been creating bags under the Brahmin name since 1982, I was unfamiliar with their work. From the Walnut Orinico collection, the Sophie bag is sturdy and well-shaped. I appreciate the unusual color and the inclusion of lots of pockets - four total. A gold-tone magnetic flap closure and a small logo tag are the only accents this bag needs. $375.

Jimmy Choo Belted Leather Tote, Handbag of the Day

This substantial tote has lots of details - twin belted straps threaded through rings, tabbed zippers on either side, more rings attaching the shoulder straps and and a wide tab closure that locks. Plus, there is even a bit of metal on the strap itself. But the best looking part of this bag is the buttery soft leather itself. It’s a shapely bag that might look a little pear shaped when full, but don’t we all? $1550

Chloe Tall Combination Logo Bag, Handbag of the Day

Posted Sep 18th 2007 5:03PM by Sandy Maple

A wide strip of logo-emblazoned metallic blue calf leather adds a bit of pizazz to an otherwise standard looking canvas bag. More shimmery blue leather trims the large exterior zippered pocket and the thick leather straps. Inside, you’ll find several more zippered pockets and black lining. It’s a pretty bag, but that taupe colored tassel looks out of place. $789.

Hermes Garden Party Tote, Handbag of the Day

This tote caught my eye primarily for the luscious orange color. But color alone can’t justify the $1395 price tag, so what else does this bag offer besides a high-end label? The answer is - not much. Made from cotton linen and trimmed in orange leather, it’s a simple large tote like any other. I do like the way the top snaps in to adjust the width, but other than that and the detachable 45″ shoulder strap, it is rather unremarkable. Pretty color, though!

Armani Linea Oregon Top Tote, Handbag of the Day

Posted Sep 16th 2007 5:03PM by Sandy Maple

Soft brown suede and leather stitching may give this bag a bit of a vintage western vibe, but the crocodile embossed handle takes it uptown. With just a touch of metal in the barely-there silver-tone buckles and a lovely rounded shape, it’s a unique bag fit for the well-dressed pioneer. Measuring 13″ high by 15″ wide, the bag is from the Armani Collezioni collection and can be pre-ordered now for $1595.
