Dooney & Bourke Emma Bags

Dooney & Bourke have just launched their new Emma Bags modelled by Emma Roberts - star of the Warner Brothers film ‘Nancy Drew’. The collection is part of their spring teen range aimed at teenage girls worldwide. The most noticeable feature of the bags is their sausage-like appearance (especially the brown shades) but apparently this is one of the must have styles of the season.

The bags are made from soft leather and come in either small or medium. Colours available include brown, black, red, white, blue, orange, green, beige and Chamois and each one is decorated with a leather trim and brass accessories.

The bags aren’t cheap, the smaller one retailing at $210 and the medium $235, both are available on the Dooney & Bourke website.

Via Spiga Madrid E/W Satchel, Handbag of the Day

Being able to balance simple design with the right amount of boldness may seem like an easy task, but personally I find it difficult to achieve. With accessories – and most likely anything else one buys – having this balance certainly adds longevity in its use and sense of style. The Via Spiga Madrid E/W Satchel may become one of the few bags that you will always wear – regardless of trends and the season. The cognac colored leather is bold yet neutral enough to wear with many colors. It features whipstitch detailing, minimal gold accents and a zippered front pocket. The braided leather double handle completes the look by adding just enough luxury without being extremely overpriced Price: $250.

Brighton Kennedy, Handbag of the Day

This bag is from Brighton’s contemporary collection, but I think it looks pretty traditional. The color is raisin and the look is classic, with double shoulder straps and a top-snap closure. Lots of bags these days have multiple, heavy charms hanging from them, but this has just the one simple heart and key. Together with the silver-tone buckles, there is just the right amount of shine. The interior is lined in Brighton’s beautiful signature paisley print and features a zip pocket, a zip divider and a key ring. Does anyone actually use the key rings? $350.

B. Romanek Caiman Rock Star Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Here’s a clutch that is different in several ways. First, it is purple. You might call it lavender, but the designer calls it purple. Second, it is a wrap clutch, which winds up to close with a flap that looks a bit like a crocodile tail. The bag looks a little odd when fully opened, but all snapped up, it looks rock-star worthy. The matte finish is not too shiny and at 10 inches wide and 5 inches deep, it’s just the right size. Barney’s has it for $2195.

Alexander Zar Studded Leather Purse, Handbag of the Day

I like the cool colors and simplicity of this bag. The gold tone studs give some movement to the classic shape and the double zippered closure keeps things safe and secure. Made of scratch resistant Italian pebble grain calf leather, the bag would do nicely for every day use. The rolled leather handles measure 20 inches and the bag itself is 14 x 9 x 5 inches. Lined in soft napa leather, it sells for $490.

Dior Samourai 1947 Woven Frame Bag, Handbag of the Day

From Dior’s Fall 2007 collection, this bag is so unusual and sports so many interesting details it is hard to know where to look first. Let’s start with the obvious - the woven fuchsia leather. It’s a bold color choice and the elaborate pattern is not your standard basket weave. Moving up to the shoulder straps, your eye is drawn to the graceful serpents perched upon the tortoiseshell frame. As if that weren’t splashy enough, the leather shoulder straps themselves are twisted in an elaborate design and almost look like extensions of the serpents. Showcasing the Dior logo is a miniature Louis XVI picture frame hanging from a leather strap. Inside, you’ll find Dior jacquard lining, a logo tag and a 7 inch zip pocket. With metal feet to protect the base and a pretty snap clasp, this bag is sure to be a must-have for those who can afford the $3900 price tag.

Louis Vuitton Monogram Groom Key and Change Holder

The LV Monogram Groom Key & Change Holder is one of the few examples where the screen print actually compliments LV’s monogram print and color scheme. It doesn’t feel thrown together or choppy; it all flows well with one another. Remember when LV came out with their monogram print covered in while block lettering? Not a good look at all. I did of course, enjoy the LV Cherry Blossom Monogram print - it was daring yet in the end, it worked. The Monogram Groom Collection draws it’s inspiration from a 1921 advertisement, resulting in adorable and fun accessory. It features a zip pocket, is lined with yellow leather and could be used as a key holder or a bag charm. Dimensions: 4.5″ x 2.5″. Price: $210.

VBH Velvet Envelope Clutch, Handbag of the Day

This appropriately named bag looks like something I would like to get in the mail. Soft silver velvet folds into a sleek envelope that is just perfect for a special evening out. The gray stitching adds a little texture without distracting from the clean lines and the three silver beads add just a touch of sparkle. Inside, the bag is lined in gray suede and features a gold numbered edition plaque. $660.

Juicy Couture Maggie Charm Tote, Handbag of the Day

I don’t usually go for Juicy bags as they tend to look a little young for me, but this one is rather sedate. It has just enough accessories to avoid being boring and is large enough to tote a weekend’s worth of necessities. If there is one feature that makes it noteworthy, it is the wooden block charm which adds a nice, earthy feel. It wouldn’t be Juicy without the chain and logo heart charm, which is uncharacteristically understated. It has a magnetic closure on the main compartment and the lined interior features a 6 inch zipper pocket as well as two accessory pockets. Also available in chocolate. $350.

Tagua Sobre Wool and Croc Clutch, Handbag of the Day

Posted Jul 1st 2007 5:03PM by Sandy Maple

I like the purple croc and I like the hand-woven geometric print, but together they seem completely mismatched. Perhaps this is what the designer was going for, but to me the clutch looks like it was cobbled together from leftover purse parts. At least the purple satin interior seems to be on the right bag. $415.
